FAQ's
What can I expect on the initial free consultation?
The free 15 mins consultation will give both of us a chance to ask each other questions and for you to tell me briefly why you are coming to counselling and how I could help. For you, to decide if I am the right therapist for you.
What can I expect on my 1st session?
I often use the Integrative Approach with the focus of building a trusting relationship between us. In our first session, I would ask you what brings you to therapy and allow you time and space to tell me your story, listen without any judgement. From there, we could set a goal of what you hope to achieve through therapy and the number of sessions.
Are the sessions confidential?
I offer a confidential counselling service and, under normal circumstances, no information
about you will be passed on to a third party. Your personal information, attendance and session content are all held in the strictest confidence.
The only exceptions to this are if:
- I believe that there is a significant risk of serious harm to you or someone else
- I would be at risk of prosecution if the information about you were not passed on
- I have reason to believe you are involved with drug trafficking, money laundering, terrorism or other serious crimes
- A court order is issued with a subpoena for notes/disclosure
- You have asked me to share your information (for example, with your GP).
Where appropriate I would aim to talk with you about breaking confidentiality first.
What are the Ethical Standards?
I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy
(BACP) and am bound by the BACP’s statement of ethics and codes of practice (available to view online at www.bacp.co.uk). Furthermore, as a practicing therapist trained and registered in England, I am bound by English law. Anyone working with me outside of England agrees that I practice by the legal and ethical practices of England and my awarding body.
Do you offer a reduced rate?
Yes, I do offer a reduced rate for trainee students and people who are on lower income.
How many sessions do I need to work through my issue/s?
I offer both short and long term counselling. It depends on individual circumstances, I would recommend starting with 4 or 6 sessions and we will review accordingly.
How long is each session?
Each session is 60 mins long.
Do you offer online and telephone sessions?
Yes, other than in-person sessions, I also offer online and telephone sessions
If you have any other enquiries, please email me and I will aim to get back to you shortly.
